Are you dreaming of an island? A Covid-safe island where the only constraints are the elementary protective measures? A sufficiently-developed island where you would retrieve most of your norms? One with a reliable Internet connection that allows work-from-home sessions while your kids attending a high-standard international school can grow up in the open air and an environment where nature is omnipresent?
A monthly rental on the east coast of Mauritius is your dream-come-true.
Choosing one's region
At the turn of the millennium, the north and west coasts have been the expats’ favourites as they were the only coastal regions to boast minimal infrastructure (Internet/phone connection, fair road networks, shops and were relatively close to schools and business places. So much so that these regions lost the local identity, are saturated, so are their roads. Add to this their very uncomfortable weather all during the long tropical summers.
On the other hand, the east coast that remained fairly preserved, still hold a lot of its local character with a lot of unbuilt, open grounds, namely public beaches, while it benefited from upgraded Internet and road networks. Access to the island’s centre is fairly easy; only 40 to 50 minutes to the business centres of Ebène and Moka or to the towns of Curepipe or Quatre-Bornes. Some supermarkets, including a large one have settled outside the main villages, bring close-by a great variety of goods, while fresh vegetables and fish can easily be sourced from the Flacq market or mobile merchants. The Internet connection is the same as in all the other regions of the island; it’s stable and regular though not the fastest. (See below).
Nearly all villas offered for rent on the east coast are on the beach and more recently built as this region developed relatively later. They are therefore functional, of good standards, often with a swimming pool, which is not very common for beach villas.
Opting for a monthly or yearly rental on the east coast of Mauritius offers the best combination to those looking for a long-term immersion into the country and a shift to a balanced way of life. See our blog about the east coast of Mauritius.
What services are included or proposed?
Our rentals differ from long-term rentals proposed at estate agencies namely because they guarantee the standards required by professionals of the tourism industry and match the expectations of travellers from all over the world. An important detail: they are all located on the beach. More importantly, they are still proposed under a holiday rental scheme where all charges (electricity, water, Internet and TV channels), the cleaning and maintenance services (pool, garden and maintenance), as well as daily cleaning services are included in the rentals.*
*Note that all household products must however be bought by the tenants and some owners may have some specific quality or brand requirements.
This makes things much easier to those who wish to settle in Mauritius temporarily before deciding upon an eventual permanent installation. Indeed, this formula avoids long processes linked to installation such as TV & Internet subscriptions, moving-in and out, hiring of domestic staff and service providers.
Daily domestic services at the villas is always based on 6 half-days a week (and outside public holidays), by one or more persons and include the preparation of at least one of the three daily meals. You will find more details about services on each villa’s fact-sheet and we remain at your disposal for further clarifications.
You will find information about our services to long-term guests here.

Covid, quarantine and procedures.
As at now (November 2020), the 14-day quarantine is compulsory to whoever enters the Mauritian territory. These quarantines can take place only in the (21) hotels dedicated to quarantines, where residents are strictly requested to stay in their rooms. Hotel services are reduced to the minimum, following a fairly strict sanitary protocol. All those who wish to travel to Mauritius mus simultaneously book their flights and their accommodation as each arrival date corresponds to one or more hotel and vice-versa. Indeed, arrivals are grouped by flight where all passengers of a same flight must have booked one of the hotels proposed for that specific arrival date.
There is no indication that this norm will change in the coming days but gradual reopening remains essential to Mauritius. This information page will be updated as often as it takes. In the meantime, we invite you to obtain detailed information on these pages:

Cost of living in Mauritius
The remoteness of Mauritius is a contributor to the relatively high costs of living, comparable to south and eastern European countries, higher when it comes to European goods. Some average products in Europe become luxury items in Mauritius. Fresh imported products, some meats, “bio” products, frozen foods and especially wine and other alcohols are those with the most striking differences. It is difficult to give an estimation of a typical shopping basket but monthly household expenses would vary between Rs. 40,000 (approx. 850 €) to Rs. 100,000 (approx . 2,000 €) for 2 persons, without excessive restraint nor opulence.
– Our monthly rentals, inclusive of charges and services as described above, vary between 4,200 € and over 30,000 € / month, for maximum sleeping capacities of 6 to 12 persons.
– A monthly car rental would cost between Rs. 15,000 (300 € approximately) and twice as much.
– A quick lunch at a restaurant, excluding wine: Rs. 500 (over 10 €) per person. A complete yet simple meal with wine would come up to Rs. 3,000 (over 60 €) for two, or much higher for elaborated meals or at gastronomic tables. It is however easy for those who love local ambiance and flavours, to find highly savoury meals at very low prices.
What about pets?
All pets are subject to quarantine, generally for a period of 3 months. Conditions of this quarantine are not ideal for the pet and quite constraining for the their owners. Furthermore, not all animals are allowed, (some dog breeds for instance). Finally, pets are not allowed in the villas we propose.
Mobile and Internet networks
Mauritius is networked in optical fibres, allowing a fair stability of service. The most common packages (those applied in our villas), are residential packages allowing download speeds of 20 Mbs (8Mbs in upload), up to 1 Tb of bandwidth per month. Over and above this quota, connection speed is reduced to 4 Mbs. Different packages are available, namely for businesses, requiring prior agreement from the owners.
The 3 mobile phone carriers offer satisfactory networks, with a rarely available theoretical 4G and a fluctuating 3G. Monthly packages are OK and not very expensive.
